European Ecolabel

The European Ecolabel was created in 1992 by the European Commission. Its main aim is to promote environmentally-friendly production and consumption practices within the European Union.

This initiative is part of a wider effort to encourage the transition to a circular economy and a more sustainable society. To obtain the European Ecolabel, we must meet strict criteria covering various environmental aspects, such as resource management, energy efficiency, reduction of CO2 emissions, biodegradability and responsible use of raw materials.

The European Ecolabel embodies a collective commitment to a sustainable future by encouraging more responsible consumer choices. By displaying this ecolabel, companies are actively helping to build a more environmentally-friendly world, a crucial step towards a more sustainable way of life for all.

Domaine de Bassilour's commitment to the planet

Energy Renovations

Respectful conservation of original materials

Domaine de Bassilour favours the conservation of the farm’s original materials during renovations, thus preserving the history and structural durability of the buildings.

Ecological insulation

The walls, built with lime, provide natural insulation. The walls are over 60 cm thick and provide a high level of inertia, reducing heat loss by 20 to 30%, allowing cool summers without air conditioning and warm winters.

Geothermal underfloor heating

The estate uses geothermal underfloor heating, exploiting natural resources to ensure thermal comfort while minimising environmental impact.

Hemp roof insulation

Insulating roofs with hemp, an environmentally-friendly material, helps to maintain a stable temperature inside, while promoting biodiversity. Torchis walls Walls plastered with torchis, a mixture of earth, straw and water, reinforce the ecological and traditional approach of the Domaine de Bassilour.

Awareness and Communication

Energy savings

Saving water

Water aerators and regulators have been installed, toilet flushes have been adapted, and in-room electricity regulation systems have been put in place to ensure that resources are used sparingly.

Bioclimatic orientation

The orientation of the building is optimised for solar energy, exploiting the bioclimatic qualities of the structure to reduce the need for air conditioning. This clever design from our ancestors reduces dependence on external energy sources, contributing to a minimal carbon footprint.

Ecological Cleaning Method

Cleaning is carried out using environmentally-friendly methods, using steam and vinegar, without the use of toxic products. This environmentally-friendly approach avoids the use of harmful chemicals, preserving indoor air quality and minimising negative impacts on the ecosystem and on people.

Energy-efficient lighting

We favour the use of low-energy bulbs. These LED or energy-saving bulbs provide quality light while requiring less electricity, thus contributing to the energy sustainability of the establishment. Lights in communal areas and outdoor areas are fitted with timers to regulate their operation. This minimises energy wastage by ensuring that lights are only left on when necessary, while creating a pleasant and safe atmosphere for everyone.

Saving water

Water aerators/regulators are installed and toilet flushes are adapted. These devices reduce the flow of water without compromising the quality of the user experience. This practice contributes to a more efficient use of water, reducing overall consumption.

Key Plug System for In-Room Electricity Management

When a guest removes the key from the plug at the entrance to the room, this automatically switches off the electricity in the room. This ensures that energy is only consumed when the room is actually occupied, contributing to a more efficient use of resources.

Our organic waste: a super fertiliser!
